Public Ethics Panel: Prosthetics of the Future

September 26 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The team at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science are developing the prosthetics of the future!

These soft robotic prosthetic devices aim to give amputees and those born with disabilities a low cost, easy to use and custom alternative to current prosthetics that will be able to move, grasp and touch just like a real hand.

The panel, hosted by local media personality Nick Rheinberger, will be made up of:

  • Prof Gursel Alici – Soft Robotics expert, University of Wollongong
  • Prof Gordon Wallace – Materials Scientist, University of Wollongong
  • Prof Sue Dodds – Ethicist, University of New South Wales
  • Len Snowden – Amputee and prosthetics advocate

This panel will explore the ethical implications behind this new age of prosthetics, discuss what people are looking for in new prosthetics and release the findings from a recent survey run in conjunction with the soft robotics and ethics departments.

The panel will be held in the LKM theatre, AIIM Building, Innovation Campus, North Wollongong. It will run from 4.20PM until around 6PM and will include light refreshments.

This is a great opportunity to find out all the innovative things happening in the field of soft robotitics as well as to get involved in the discussion surrounding the prosthetics of the future!
