The Steel Hub’s Advisory Council (AC) convened on 26 June 2017 at the Sydney Business School, Circular Quay, providing a timely opportunity for AC members (senior CSIRO, BlueScope, Stockland, Australian Steel Institute and Australian Industry Group) to advise the Hub on strategic issues relevant to the Hub’s objectives, including enhancing industry engagement and collaboration.

Guests included Sean Wong (BlueScope), Michael Bradburn (Cox Architects), Mark Eckermann (BlueScope), Chris Cook (UOW), David Pinson (BlueScope), Jason Hodges (BlueScope) and Brianna Knowles (UOW).

The meeting, chaired by Cathy Foley (CSIRO), consisted of an update by the Hub Director followed by presentations across the 3 research streams:

  • Brianna Knowles (Market-focussed Product Innovation – anti-fungal technologies),
  • Dale Clark, Stockland (Market-focussed Product Innovation – mid-rise buildings), Jason Hodges (Innovative Coatings Technologies – overview),
  • David Pinson (Sustainable Steel Manufacturing – by-product utilisation).

This was followed by a breakout session focusing on the direction of the Hub, discussing potential ways to increase engagement with SME and identify what constitutes success and the “prizes” for each partner organisation.
