This is a guest post and part of our ongoing Student Life series
I had a chance to attend the 20th Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems 2016 (PACIS 2016). PACIS 2016 was held in Chiayi, Taiwan from June 27-July 1 2016. Chiayi city is a provincial city at southwestern Taiwan. This year PACIS has received 741 submissions involving more than 1,900 authors from 49 countries and makes it one of the premier conferences in the information systems field.

In the conference, I presented a paper co-authored with my supervisor, Dr. Akemi T. Chatfield, entitled “The impact of social media policy and use on value creation: A survey research”. The paper is about the important role of the social media policy on the value creation through social media use in the disaster management context. We use 124 responses of survey data from the Indonesia’s disaster management agencies. The paper was presented in the E-business and E-government track.

The conference offered many interesting paper and poster presentations on various topics. Some panels and workshops were also held during the conference enabled me to meet academics from other universities, different countries with different cultures. The keynote speech on the Perspectives for Impactful Information Systems Research by Prof. Arun Rai has enlightened me on how to make our research has greater impacts on our society. Overall, this trip enriches my research perspectives and shapes my future research directions.
