ICWAM 2017 is the First International Congress on Welding, Additive Manufacturing and Associated Non-destructive Testing organised by the Institut de Soudure Group, France and Ecole Centrale de Nantes, France. The conference was held 17th to 19th May 2017 at Metz, France. There were 285 participants from 22 countries.

The conference was a great opportunity for networking as there were several attendees who were working in the similar field as me, of which I was able to make contact. I received constructive feedback, important ideas and inputs which will be valuable for my project.  Professor John Norrish, from UOW, and I attended the event for three days.  The opportunity to meet industry and research leaders, who are especially involved in thermal modelling, was one of the biggest highlights of the conference.

Following the conference presentations, I attended an industry visit to the car chassis manufacturing plant of the Magna Group, which exposed me to cutting-edge technology in the automobile industry.

I would like to acknowledge the University of Wollongong, the Australian Research Council, the Research Training Centre for Navel Defence Manufacturing (RTCNDM), Defence Science Technology (DST) Group and ASC Pty Limited for supporting my research and giving me the opportunity to attend to the conference.
